Working at home is nothing new for a mortgage banker … my first mortgage employer gave me a laptop computer in 2007 and showed me how to log into all the various sites and applications we used at the time. Although I did have to produce and ship paper files to a fulfillment site, there was no requirement to spend time in a physical office.
Now that American workers in many industries commute to a home office in sweat pants (or a bathrobe!), I have heard a lot of chatter about how home improvement vendors have been affected. I, myself, have been waiting for custom shutters for a bedroom for 6+ months. Sitting around on zoom calls has given many of us a chance to notice missing caulking, unmatched baseboards, and projects we have put off for too long.
Now it seems that the ability to spend more time at home has morphed into how we can replicate things we liked about business (or personal) travel. Although I was not sent to glamorous places when corporate meetings were still held in person, I loved fresh towels, clutter-free counters, and spacious showers in hotel rooms.
